Bitlayer V2 is the next evolution of Bitlayer’s layer 2 infrastructure, introducing the first Bitcoin-native rollup to replace the current sidechain model. By leveraging Bitcoin’s security and rollup technology, it delivers higher throughput, lower costs, and Turing-complete programmability, unlocking new opportunities for smart contracts and applications beyond Bitcoin’s scripting limits.

To overcome Bitcoin’s restricted language, Bitlayer V2 adopts BitVM2, a hybrid proving system that combines zero-knowledge proofs with optimistic fraud proofs. Proofs are assumed valid unless challenged during a seven-day dispute window, ensuring security while avoiding costly on-chain verification. This approach keeps settlement efficient while incentivizing honesty through slashing and rewards.

Built on this design, Bitlayer V2 offers EVM compatibility, a trust-minimized BTC bridge, Bitcoin-level security for EVM state transitions, and flexible data availability options.
