The U.S. Marshals Service holds only about 29,000 Bitcoin, far fewer than expected.

According to documents obtained by independent crypto journalist L0la L33tz through the Freedom of Information Act, as of March of this year, the U.S. Marshals Service held only 28,988 Bitcoins, worth approximately $3.4 billion, far less than the market had previously believed. Previous estimates suggested that the U.S. government's overall crypto asset holdings were as high as $25 billion. The Trump administration had ordered that Bitcoin held by federal agencies be transferred to the Treasury Department for management and that a "strategic Bitcoin reserve" be established.
