On July 15, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin posted on social media that the best way to build Layer 2 (L2) networks is to rely more on the security, censorship resistance, proofs, and data availability provided by Layer 1 (L1) networks, and to simplify their own logic to only handle core execution as sequencers and provers (or only as provers if based on proofs). Vitalik pointed out that this combination of trust minimization and efficiency is what enterprise-grade blockchain teams in the 2010s pursued but failed to achieve. Now, with Ethereum Layer 2 networks, this goal can be achieved. He added that there have been successful cases showing that when Layer 2 networks have problems, the functions of Layer 1 networks can protect users' rights. [TechFlow]
