According to a report by American tech media The Verge, the complex relationship between Microsoft (MSFT.O) and OpenAI is about to undergo a dramatic turn. Just as the two companies are renegotiating their contract to allow OpenAI to restructure as a for-profit company, OpenAI is preparing to release an open language model, which may further exacerbate the rift between the two companies. Sources revealed that the AI lab led by Sam Altman is about to release an open-weight model next week, which will not only land on OpenAI and Microsoft Azure servers, but will also be open to other cloud service providers. Unlike OpenAI's usual closed-weight model, the publicly available weight parameters (a type of training parameter) will be open to the public. This openness means that companies and governments will be able to deploy the model independently. [Odaily Planet Daily]
