BitMEX Research: A Bitcoin Phishing Scam Disguised as Mt.Gox Stolen Address Sends Inducement Information

BitMEX Research has discovered a recent, elaborate scam targeting Bitcoin users. Someone is sending transactions with OP_Return outputs using Bitcoin addresses from the 2011 era, including the 1Feex... address from which approximately 80,000 $BTC were stolen from Mt. Gox. The OP_Return information in these transactions points to a website that claims: "This digital wallet appears to be lost or abandoned. Our client has taken presumptive possession of it and is seeking confirmation as to whether a genuine owner exists." The page then provides a form requesting personal details. [Foresight News]
