Devnet, Partisia, and the Road Ahead

Since we announced the path to the mainnet for Crypto Factor Interchain, we have been working tirelessly to achieve this goal. We would like to share the progress we have made so far and what lies ahead.

InterChain Devnet v1.0
As mentioned, we have primarily focused on bringing v1.0 of InterChain to the devnet, where we can conduct final tests on all the new features and updates introduced for the upcoming mainnet release. Last week, we completed a full deployment, which provided us with valuable insights regarding deployment costs and initial challenges related to bootstrapping the mainnet.

Following this successful deployment, we updated the Oracle Node to accommodate the newly introduced consensus changes, ensuring it is fully compatible. However, new challenges arose from these updates, primarily within the PBC on-chain IC MasterChain infrastructure. Our team dedicated their efforts to resolving these issues, and we are pleased to report that master blocks were successfully minted on devnet according to the new rules! 🥂

Partisia On-Chain Gas Estimation
Our development work on the Partisia Blockchain is instrumental in achieving our goals for IC, thanks to its design choices and scalability. However, it also presents its own unique challenges that differ from the typical Web3 development experience.

The asynchronous execution of cross-contract calls allows us to create complex graphs of parallel interactions between IC smart contracts, enhancing performance and the theoretical transactions per second (TPS) of IC. One drawback of such asynchronous execution is the need for "semi-manual" gas management. Smart contracts must assign a gas limit for cross-contract calls, which can be challenging when our transactions generate over 100 events.

To address this, we have implemented a sophisticated on-chain gas estimation protocol for our smart contracts. This protocol enables us to dynamically estimate and control gas usage, scaling efficiently with new features and adding minimal gas overhead. However, it adds considerable complexity, particularly when we introduce consensus changes. This complexity has contributed to delays during this week’s deployment and adaptation to the new consensus changes. Fortunately, we have managed to overcome these hurdles, and we are excited for the testnet deployment scheduled for this week.

Testnet Launch
Once we complete the devnet deployment and consensus tests, we will launch v1.0 on a fresh testnet chain this week. This testnet deployment will offer us the opportunity to refine the broader infrastructure in response to the new changes, including the bridge and the dApp.

When the working CFR bridge is established on the testnet, we will begin deploying the mainnet for the IC Beta period. We want to express our gratitude for your continued support throughout this development, and we eagerly anticipate what lies ahead!
