IBM’s latest quantum roadmap is a wake-up call for blockchain and crypto devs. IBM expects “quantum advantage” by 2026 and fault-tolerant quantum computing by 2029:
“Now, while we’re confident in our plans to deliver fault-tolerance by 2029, we expect to achieve quantum advantage sooner—by 2026. We’ve laid out the tools needed to realize and extend quantum advantage with the updated IBM Quantum Development Roadmap, and we are working to ensure that advantages realized before 2029 will run seamlessly on the fault-tolerant quantum computers of 2029 and beyond.”
Why does this matter? Quantum computers could break the cryptography that secures Bitcoin and other blockchains. But there’s hope: #QANplatform’s enterprise blockchain is already using NIST-recommended, quantum-resistant cryptography and offers Ethereum compatibility, letting devs build DApps in any language—future-proofing your code against quantum threats. The same quantum-resistant cryptography will also be available in the soon-to-be-launched QAN MainNet, so your projects can stay secure as quantum tech advances.
Are you preparing for the post-quantum world, or just hoping your private keys won’t become tomorrow’s crossword puzzle?
