A former Ethereum Foundation researcher claimed to have rejected a $5 million proposal to "spin out Geth." According to The Block, former Ethereum Foundation researcher and Geth lead developer Péter Szilágyi stated on X this week that he turned down a $5 million offer to spin out the Ethereum core client Geth into a private company. He also accused the foundation of secretly funding a rival Geth development team. He revealed that he was fired less than 24 hours after discussing a "secret second Geth team" with Ethereum communicator Josh Stark. Szilágyi stated that the Ethereum Foundation had threatened to cut funding for Geth and offered $5 million to the developer to operate independently. This was in response to the new Ethereum Foundation co-director Tomasz K. Stańczak, who had developed the second-largest Ethereum client, Nethermind. Stańczak previously posted to deny any "plan to remove Geth," countering Szilágyi's claim that the foundation "planned to remove Geth in the coming years to focus on research and education." Szilágyi had announced his leave from the foundation last November.
