The Czech Ministry of Justice faces scrutiny for selling 480 Bitcoin donated by a convicted criminal, prompting its minister to resign. According to Cryptoslate, Czech Minister of Justice Pavel Blažek announced his resignation on May 30, following the ministry's sale of 480 Bitcoin (worth approximately $45 million) donated by a drug trafficking convict. Upon receiving the Bitcoin, the ministry immediately liquidated the funds and used the proceeds for victim compensation and prison equipment. The donation has raised questions from opposition lawmakers about the legitimacy of accepting assets donated by former criminals. Additionally, the police have launched an investigation into the source of these Bitcoins and the specifics of the ministry’s acceptance of them. A few hours after the investigation began, Pavel Blažek decided to resign from his position, which he held since December 2021. In a post on May 30, he stated, "In agreement with Prime Minister Petr Fiala, I have decided to resign as Minister of Justice. I have not committed any illegal acts. However, I do not want to harm the government or the ruling coalition's reputation."
