Ripple plans to acquire stablecoin issuer Circle, prompting legal experts to warn that this could lead to a "cryptocurrency doomsday." Circle is the issuer of USDC in New York, which is the second-largest stablecoin. If Ripple successfully completes the acquisition, it will quickly enter the global stablecoin market, but this move has raised antitrust concerns. Gabriel Shapiro, founder of MetaLeX Labs, pointed out that if Ripple becomes the largest asset issuer, it will negatively impact market competition and may face regulatory scrutiny due to its historical competitive behavior. Shapiro advises Circle to weigh the antitrust risks when considering the deal and to choose the option that is most beneficial to shareholders.
