The Singapore High Court has approved Sonic Labs' request to liquidate the Multichain Foundation in order to recover funds lost in a $210 million exploit attack in 2023. The court ruled on May 9, appointing KPMG Singapore as joint liquidators. Sonic Labs (formerly known as Fantom Foundation) filed for liquidation last March after Multichain suffered a vulnerability attack and shut down its platform in July 2023, with Sonic Labs' losses accounting for about one-third of the total loss. The court had previously supported Sonic Labs' legal claims against Multichain for breach of contract and fraudulent misrepresentation. Multichain CEO He Zhaojun was arrested by Chinese authorities several months before the exploit and has not appeared publicly since. Michael Kong, CEO of Sonic Labs, stated that due to prolonged unresponsiveness from Multichain, the team was forced to take compulsory liquidation measures, hoping to recover user losses through the liquidation process.
