⚡️OpenAI Abandons Transition to a For-Profit Model, Remaining Under Nonprofit Control in the Future
OpenAI announced a restructuring of its corporate structure, stating that the organization will continue to be controlled by its existing nonprofit entity, while its "for-profit" arm will be transformed into a Public Benefit Corporation (PBC). This structural adjustment includes four key points:
1️⃣ OpenAI will remain controlled by the current nonprofit organization
2️⃣ The existing for-profit entity will be converted into a PBC
3️⃣ The nonprofit will control and hold a significant stake in the PBC
4️⃣ The nonprofit and the PBC will continue to share the same mission
Chairman Bret Taylor stated that, after this restructuring, OpenAI's structure is "very close" to its current form. CEO Sam Altman described it as a compromise, saying, "It's 'good enough' for investors, encouraging them to continue providing the funding we believe will be needed in the future."
In short, this is a result of balancing fundraising needs with the organization's公益 mission.
Do you think this kind of compromise can effectively preserve OpenAI's original purpose?
