$Epic Games has achieved a recent victory in its long-standing legal battle with Apple, resulting in the U.S. App Store allowing applications to bypass the 30% fee on NFT and cryptocurrency sales. U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers of the Northern District of California ruled that Apple cannot restrict developers from including links or buttons in their apps that direct users to external purchasing methods, which are not subject to Apple's 30% in-app purchase fee or the 27% external purchase fee. Previously, while NFT sales were allowed, purchases still required payment of Apple's commission. Apple plans to appeal but has already modified its rules to permit such external links in U.S. App Store apps. Such links remain prohibited outside the U.S. $Epic Games sued Apple in 2020 after its removal of the Fortnite game; Fortnite is expected to return to the U.S. App Store next week.
