Japan's Metaplanet Issues $2.50 Billion Bonds to Expand U.S. Market and Increase Bitcoin Investment

Japanese investment company Metaplanet has issued zero-coupon ordinary bonds worth 3.60 billion yen (approximately 24.70 million USD) to purchase more Bitcoin. This issuance is allocated through Metaplanet's EVO fund, allowing investors to redeem the bonds at face value before October 31, 2025. This marks the company's 12th round of ordinary bond issuance supporting its Bitcoin accumulation strategy. Since actively purchasing Bitcoin starting April 2024, Metaplanet has accumulated 5,000 Bitcoins (approximately 484 million USD), reaching 50% of its year-end target of holding 10,000 Bitcoins. The company ranks among the top ten corporate Bitcoin holders on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. Metaplanet CEO Simon Gerovich stated on the social platform X that the trading volume of the company's stock MTPLF, listed on the US OTC market, has recently surged, hitting record highs for four consecutive days. The company's unrealized Bitcoin gains exceed 6 billion yen, about four times the pre-Bitcoin standard market value. The Metaplanet board has decided to establish a wholly-owned subsidiary, Metaplanet Treasury Corp., later this month in Miami, Florida, to enhance access to institutional liquidity pools and more efficient Bitcoin acquisition channels. The new company plans to raise up to 250 million USD to support the Bitcoin treasury strategy, with initial funding of 10 million USD. Metaplanet's stock price on the Tokyo Stock Exchange rose 10.4% to 435 yen.
