Symbiotic, initially a restaking protocol on Ethereum, has raised $29 million in a Series A funding round led by Pantera Capital, with participation from Coinbase Ventures and over 100 angel investors from projects like Aave, Polygon, and StarkWare. This funding round brings Symbiotic's total funding to $34.8 million. The protocol is expanding into "universal staking," aiming to enable various assets to secure different types of blockchain networks, including Layer 1s, Layer 2s, and modular chains. Symbiotic's universal staking protocol is already live on 14 networks and plans to expand to over 35, including integrations with Hyperlane, Spark, and Avail. The company focuses on providing plug-and-play staking solutions for Layer 1s, oracles, bridges, data availability layers, and AI/ZK co-processors. Symbiotic currently has about 30 employees and is hiring to support future launches. Pantera Capital highlights the protocol's potential to enhance economic security and enable new DeFi use cases.
