Google will start enforcing stricter cryptocurrency advertising policies in Europe on April 23, requiring exchanges and wallets to obtain licenses under the MiCA or CASP regulatory framework. This move aims to prevent ICO fraud but may lead to enforcement gaps. The new policy applies to most European countries, and violations will not immediately result in account suspension. This policy change comes after the implementation of the MiCA framework in December 2024. Bitget's Chief Legal Officer, Hon Ng, stated that while this policy enhances investor protection, it may be overly strict, especially considering the varying transition periods for national licenses. Mattan Erder, General Counsel at Orbs, believes that this change may be more about protecting Google from liability rather than protecting investors.
