Automata Network has released DCAP Attestation v1.0.0, a tool for managing remote attestation for Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs) on blockchain. This enhances transparency and security by ensuring that users interact with secure hardware. The DCAP Attestation is widely used in the industry, supporting projects like Scroll, Flashbots, and Oasis Protocol. It is now available on Solana and has been audited by Trail of Bits, confirming its robust security. Automata has also introduced a suite of attestation SDKs to facilitate integration into developer workflows. The project aligns with the open-source and decentralized values of the crypto community, encouraging collaboration and transparency.

<img src="https://static.sosovalue.com/sosovalue/2025/04/11/a27705e2-af94-4931-9f14-5c7dc53d1453.png"><p>Automata’s <a href="https://github.com/automata-network/automata-dcap-attestation">DCAP Attestation</a> manages remote attestation for Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs) onchain, which gives users strong guarantees on the authenticity and integrity of the hardware they build&nbsp;on.</p><p>It’s easy to come up with synergies at first glance: Remote attestation is opaque, blockchain balances that with transparency. The transparency of the blockchain, being, too, an enforceable guarantee: a) users interact only with secure hardware that can cryptographically attest to their properties and b) denote a new, more open and decentralized way of building things together. Instead of remote attestation being a potential chokehold for projects observed with Web2 workflows i.e. relying on proprietary manufacturers, collaterals are gathered from many projects, managed on a unified interface, and published on a public, unforgeable ledger.</p><p>The work itself is continuing and bearing fruit — DCAP Attestation is one of the most widely used and recognized open-source repositories for projects within the industry today, including: Layer 2s like Scroll, Puffer UniFi, and Taiko Gwyneth; infrastructure projects such as Flashbots, Espresso, and t1; TEE and MPC ecosystem players including Phala Network, Secret Network, Oasis Protocol, Marlin Protocol, Stoffel MPC, Spacecoin, Rena Labs, and TEN Protocol; and AI-native networks like Eternal&nbsp;AI.</p><h3><strong>TEE Prover(s) to scale&nbsp;Ethereum</strong></h3><p>Multi-prover architectures are being actively explored as one approach to improving rollup finality while maintaining strong fallback guarantees. These 2-of-3 designs incorporate distinct proof systems — optimistic, ZK, and TEE — each operating independently to validate proposed state transitions. The inclusion of TEE is often motivated by latency improvements, where immediate attestations of correctness can be provided for Stage 2 rollups. This work has already begun in earnest with Automata’s <a href="https://app.eigenlayer.xyz/avs/0xe5445838c475a2980e6a88054ff1514230b83aeb">Multi-Prover AVS</a> on EigenLayer, which supports Scroll and&nbsp;Linea.</p><p>DCAP Attestation allows TEE Provers to be verifiable and usable in this context. Outputs from TEEs are only meaningful if accompanied by a verified chain of trust that proves the expected code is running on genuine hardware. DCAP Attestation manages the verification of TEEs onchain and extends the utility of secure hardware into public, decentralized settings. A standardized interface for auditing TEEs reduces the risk of TEE Provers becoming opaque or brittle components in an otherwise open infrastructure.</p><h3><strong>DCAP Attestation: Now on&nbsp;Solana</strong></h3><p>Building out DCAP Attestation is also as much a technical project as it is a social one. In the nine months since we released our hello-world introduction for DCAP Attestation, we’ve worked with RISC Zero and Succinct for SNARK verification, which reduces the cost of computation by verifying only a single aggregated proof onchain. In this time, we’ve also expanded the number of chains supported, both across testnets, including for Ethereum Hoodi, Sepolia and Holesky, and for Ethereum, World, Optimism, and Base, among others, on the list of Mainnet networks. The full list of chains can be found&nbsp;<a href="https://github.com/automata-network/automata-dcap-attestation">here</a>.</p><p>While we’ve rapidly expanded the technical utility of the contract, including our latest deployment of the DCAP Attestation program on Solana, its technology is kept alive in many ways by the social process that maintains it: Developers who work on applications that bring in users, entities who are motivated to make ongoing contributions so the repository becomes a live, working project, ultimately in keeping the community grounded and focused on building, and so&nbsp;on.</p><h3><strong>Security-first approach: Trail of Bits&nbsp;audit</strong></h3><p>We believe that this is all happening just in time. TEEs, on a whole, are useful for many things: From our own work securing World’s AMPC with TEEs, exotic AI contraptions like Subagents, to efforts such as Unichain’s Flashblocks, the industry is hastening to the practicality of applications and systems centred around the premise of secure hardware.</p><p>As part of this effort, Automata Network has engaged Trail of Bits to conduct an audit of the DCAP Attestation repository, including Onchain PCCS.<strong> </strong>Over 8 engineering-weeks, the Trail of Bits team conducted a comprehensive security review with full access to the source code and related documentation.</p><p>The assessment began on January 6th, 2025 on commit #2d8b6b3dd35643081fa7fd98bbb1323a0601b2bb of DCAP Attestation and commit #352f4f69ae270823531a877e670ce7bffbf6a2c0 of Onchain PCCS. Its&nbsp;scope:</p><ul><li>DCAP Attestation: Solidity library that integrates Onchain PCCS to verify Intel SGX and Intel TDX attestations.</li><li>Onchain PCCS: Decentralized repository to manage, store and update collaterals onchain.</li></ul><p>The audit found that the DCAP Attestation repository is generally well-structured, with clear APIs and easy-to-follow workflows. The list of individual findings by Trail of Bits, including their analysis and remediations, can be found in the full&nbsp;audit.</p><p>The final report is available <a href="https://github.com/trailofbits/publications/blob/master/reviews/2025-02-automata-dcap-attestation-onchain-pccs-securityreview.pdf">here</a>.</p><h3><strong>Open-sourcing DCAP&nbsp;SDK</strong></h3><p>Automata has also rolled out a suite of attestation SDKs, including Automata SGX SDK, Automata TDX Attestation SDK, AMD SEV-SNP Attestation SDK, and our newly released <a href="https://github.com/automata-network/dcap-sdk">DCAP SDK</a> v0.1.0, which eases the friction for developers to adapt the attestation contract into their own workflow.</p><p>In many ways, our work on DCAP Attestation is an extension of the underlying values of crypto (e.g. be open source, minimize centralization, open participation) to the field of secure hardware.
