The French antitrust authority has fined Apple €150 million due to its App Tracking Transparency (ATT) system failing to comply with the privacy rules of the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The agency pointed out that Apple's ATT framework is "neither necessary nor proportionate" in terms of competition law, and its implementation is deemed to be an "abuse". The ATT system requires applications to display multiple pop-up windows, complicating the user experience and making it difficult for advertisers to effectively comply with GDPR regulations.
