Hello everyone, this is a message from Sci-Hub founder, Alexandra Elbakyan. Just to clarify some doubts:

1. Sci-Hub is "she/her", not "them/they"

That is, I'm the only creator and administrator of Sci-Hub project since 2011. Nobody else involved. Ever.

However, there are people who are currently running third-party Sci-Hub mirrors, but they are not in any way connected to me or to the original project.

2. Since 2017 I had a dream (or fantasy) to launsh Sci-Hub coin, that can be used to fund open science projects. For example, journals could use such coin to pay reviewers, and etc. However, I did not have time to actually implement this idea.

Suddenly, in November 2024 a group of Chinese Sci-Hub users have launched $scihub meme coin, in order to support the project. I know there is a lot of doubts and suspicions around this project. But the fact is, the meme coin already helped Sci-Hub a lot. I was never able to collect the same amount simply by asking for donations on the website.
You can decide yourself, if you want to support this project (Sci-Hub meme coin) or to let it die.

Apart from paying for Sci-Hub servers and technical infrastructure, I could use the token to obtain new papers, as well as for paper works neccessary for Sci-Hub to be accepted as a legal project in all countries of the world.

I'm not interested in buying new house at the moment, and I also do not have a driving license (i.e. the money will not be spent to buy an expensive car)

3. After Twitter has banned Sci-Hub account in 2021, I decided that Sci-Hub should not have any official accounts in social media. Imagine, you're investing your time and soul into these accounts, and after that your work is just banned or deleted!

4. However, after the Sci-Hub meme token was launched, I got pressured by crypto community to continue social media activity, because it is important for the token, to continuously attract attention.

In response to this, I decided to invite a social media marketing specialist from the community to manage Sci-Hub communities in Facebook and Telegram, and promote the token. He has also attempted to create a new Sci-Hub account on Twitter, but it got banned again.

5. When will Sci-Hub resume uploading new papers?

When the project becomes legal, then it will 100% continue its work. Maybe earlier.
