Alps Testnet Upgrade
As Dill enters the final phase of the Alps incentivized testnet, we are excited to unveil a significant network upgrade that marks a major milestone. This upgrade is designed to bring enhanced features and substantial performance improvements to the network, ensuring a seamless transition while preserving backward compatibility.

Here’s what’s coming with the upgrade:
🔹End-to-End Sharding: Dill now achieves up to 10 MB/s throughput on a decentralized network using commodity hardware, outperforming existing blockchain and DA networks by 10-100x. Sharding is optimized by moving it prior to the block building during the P2P propagation stage, reducing the sync burden and enabling parallel 2D EC encoding for greater scalability.
🔹Metrics Collection: Enhanced monitoring with detailed health and performance metrics to identify optimization opportunities across the network.
🔹Pebble DB: A high-performance, stable key-value database replacing the existing file system for blob storage. It avoids Cgo boundary issues, improving data handling efficiency.
🔹Unified P2P Networks: Execution and data layers now share a single P2P network, simplifying architecture and reducing bandwidth requirements for light clients.
🔹Staking MiniPool: Operators can create MiniPools with just 3,600 Dill tokens. Participants can delegate to these pools to reach 36,000 tokens for full-node staking. Smart contracts ensure secure management, with permissionless delegation withdrawals to minimize risks.
🔹Validator Upgrades: Enhanced resilience with Dill's custom LMD+GHOST algorithm, which ensures faster recovery. If up to one-third of validators are outdated, the network recovers within one week. In extreme cases, where over one-third are stale, penalties accelerate their removal, enabling full recovery within an hour. Also it enables APY opportunities for light clients.
