Sunsetting the game

After almost a year live, we decided to sunset our game leagues. We initially launched this feature when we were targeting crypto natives and it made sense back then.

But now that we've successfully shifted to the 100x bigger market of web2 students, it doesn't make sense to have it anymore.

Don't worry, you won't lost your accumulated airdrop points!

Bridging the gap between web2 and web3 users

In a few weeks, the experience between web2 and web3 users will be exactly the same as web2 users will also get their own onchain wallet.

We've always though of web3 features as a way for our users to be financially rewarded for their focus, and we might have found a way to sustainably do it. You still have to be patient as it will come in Q2 2025.

Update on Tree utility

Regarding the trees, we're about to rethink their utility completely as part of our new tokenomics. The reason is we will introduce other non-NFT trees.

If you hold an NFT tree, you can expect those 2 things to remain true in the future:
1. NFT Trees will remain at the top of the hierarchy vs other NFTs
2. Their supply will stay relatively scarce (0.15% of our user base today)

That said we have to remove their main advantage that allowed people to earn 1 tile per day per NFT tree they owned.

To give you full context, if we want to become as big as Duolingo or Strava, we have to continue experimenting on the reward system to keep improving our retention. Among those experimentation, we want to run A/B testing on different rewards mechanisms, that's why we have to simplify the utility of our NFTs.

Should you hold or dump your Focus Tree NFTs?

The point with the game was to give each tile their own utility in the game by allowing users to combine them to create combo and farm the leagues.

While it's proven great for web3 users, this feature was bad for students as it was more a game of focus than a real focus app.

Right now the only utility of our NFTs is cosmetics. While it wouldn't work for most web3 projects, it can be really huge for Focus Tree.

We're on a path to cross 1M users and we have less than 10k NFTs available... what do you think will happen when web2 users will be able to trade those? (right now they don't even see the in-app marketplace, it's hidden by default)

As a comparison, with 20M users, CS GO skins have a total annual trading volume of $5B+!
