The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) of India is conducting nationwide raids to investigate the GainBitcoin scam, which deceived 8,000 investors through fake Bitcoin returns. CBI searched over 60 locations related to a Ponzi scheme involving 660.60 billion Indian Rupees (approximately 75.80 million USD) in Bitcoin. The operation targeted properties associated with the main suspects in cities such as Delhi, Bangalore, Pune, and South Delhi. The GainBitcoin scam was orchestrated by Bitcoin evangelist Amit Bhardwaj and his brother Vivek Bhardwaj. The scheme attracted investors by promising a monthly return of 10% in Bitcoin. Amit passed away in January 2022 due to cardiac arrest. CBI reiterated that it will continue to thoroughly investigate this "major cryptocurrency fraud" case until all criminals are brought to justice.
