New Clue Emerges: Was Satoshi Active Until 2014?

Research by Coinbase director Conor Grogan suggests that the last known on-chain activity of Satoshi Nakamoto occurred in 2014. He points out that Satoshi may have used the Canadian Bitcoin exchange Cavirtex. Cavirtex was acquired by Kraken in 2016, which means the exchange may hold information about Satoshi's identity, depending on whether KYC data has been retained.

Grogan mentions the Patoshi mining pattern, a series of addresses believed to be associated with Satoshi, which were recently cataloged by Arkham Intelligence. These addresses collectively hold approximately 1.10 million $BTC, valued at around 108 billion USD.

Analysis found that these addresses had 24 outbound transactions, with the most frequent receiving address being 1PYYj, which received Bitcoin from Cavirtex, indicating that this was the first on-chain interaction between Satoshi-related wallets and a centralized exchange.

Grogan suggested that Kraken's former executive Jesse Powell consider deleting the KYC data related to these transactions to protect Satoshi's anonymity. He also noted that these Satoshi-related addresses sent 200 $BTC to a Bitcoin faucet through two transactions.

Last year, renowned cryptographer and privacy advocate Len Sassaman was speculated to be a candidate for Satoshi's true identity, but there is no direct cryptographic evidence linking him to Satoshi.
