Due to the ban on TikTok on January 19, American users have massively turned to the Chinese social platform Xiaohongshu. This migration has facilitated cultural exchange between Chinese and American users and has driven a surge in Duolingo's Chinese language learners. Data shows that the number of new users learning Chinese in the U.S. has increased by 216% year-on-year, with this trend particularly evident following the Xiaohongshu craze in mid-January. Duolingo's report indicates a significant increase in the proportion of "TikTok" in its new user source survey. At the same time, Duolingo seized the opportunity to post humorous videos on TikTok to promote its Chinese courses, with related videos receiving over 500 thousand likes. Data shows that Duolingo's app downloads in the U.S. have recently increased by 36%, and its rankings in the App Store and Google Play have risen significantly.
