The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) plans to submit a brief for the hearing on the Ripple lawsuit appeal on January 15. The SEC will challenge Judge Torres' ruling on July 13 regarding the programmatic sales of $XRP, arguing that these transactions are unregistered securities sales. The SEC will also appeal Ripple's sales of $XRP on cryptocurrency exchanges and the personal sales by executives and employees, potentially seeking higher fines exceeding $125 million. Ripple's Chief Legal Officer Stuart Alderoty criticized the SEC for wasting taxpayers' money. Experts predict that with the Trump administration taking office, the SEC may not further pursue the appeal.
