Polygon has announced that it will auction a first edition Charizard Pokémon card, issued in 1999, on the Polygon blockchain. The card will be tokenized through the Ethereum scaling network Polygon and auctioned by the collectibles platform Courtyard. The card will be securely stored in a Brink's vault, with an estimated value of up to $250 thousand. Polygon Labs CEO Marc Boiron stated that this auction is not only about the Charizard card but also demonstrates how blockchain can revolutionize the world of collectibles. A representative from Polygon Labs mentioned that they acquired this card from a well-known seller. Since 2020, similar first edition Charizard Pokémon cards have sold for between $264 thousand and $400 thousand.
