According to CoinDesk and two sources, New York Attorney General Letitia James has joined the regulatory action against the cryptocurrency trading platform Uniswap. James's office issued subpoenas last month to some venture capital firms investing in Uniswap, including Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) and Union Square Ventures.
A Uniswap spokesperson stated that they welcome dialogue with any government agency or elected official regarding responsible DeFi innovation. Meanwhile, the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) on September 4th (Wednesday) ordered Uniswap Labs to pay a civil penalty of $175,000 and cease violations of the Commodity Exchange Act. Previously, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in April 2024 issued a "Wells Notice" to Uniswap, accusing it of operating as an unregistered securities broker and exchange.
