BitGo, a global digital asset custody firm, has partnered with South Korea's SK Telecom and Hana Financial, making them major shareholders and strategic partners in BitGo Korea. Hana Financial acquired a 25% stake and SK Telecom a 10% stake in BitGo Korea, announced during the Korea Blockchain Week 2024 in Seoul. This partnership aims to expand BitGo Korea's local market presence and support the institutionalization of crypto in South Korea. Hana Financial will provide crypto custody services, while SK Telecom will offer expertise in user authentication and security. BitGo Korea is also preparing to become a licensed virtual asset service provider in the country. BitGo, founded in 2013, manages about $70 billion in assets and handles 20% of bitcoin traded on-chain. Hana Financial Group is the third largest financial group in South Korea, and SK Telecom is the leading telecommunications provider, holding about 40% of the market.
