Following the latest hack in August, cryptocurrency hackers have now stolen over $1.20 billion, further raising concerns about the widespread adoption of cryptocurrencies. As of 2024, the crypto industry has experienced 154 hacking and theft incidents, resulting in a loss of $12.1 billion in digital assets. According to a report by Immunefi, this number has increased by 15.5% compared to the same period in 2023, when the total loss was slightly above $1 billion. Mitchell Amador, the founder and CEO of Immunefi, stated that this worrying trend could lead to hackers stealing more than in 2023, "It's hard to predict, but the ecosystem is always at risk of a severe and successful attack, which could significantly increase these numbers. We must remain vigilant at all times to mitigate such risks." In August, hackers stole over $15 million worth of cryptocurrencies, a 94% decrease from the $274 million stolen in July. (Cointelegraph)
