With the different types of L2 rollups being launched, will their approaches to scalability and security align, and what trade-offs might arise for both L1 and L2?</strong></h4><p>Sujith:</p><ul><li>L2 solutions are application-specific and function like servers, with Ethereum serving as a general execution environment.</li><li>In the future, interactions may primarily occur through L2s or app-specific rollups, with Ethereum operating more as a hidden execution layer.</li></ul><p>Leona:</p><ul><li>Trade-offs exist between L1 and L2 scaling, with monolithic versus modular approaches.</li><li>Regardless of application type (privacy, finance, gaming, social), addressing network congestion and optimizing block size are essential.</li></ul><p>Deli:</p><ul><li>Ethereum has shifted to being the infrastructure for other systems, with L1 focused on security and consensus, and L2 utilizing different models and sequencing.</li><li>L1 improvements like EIP-4844 and danksharding support L2 scalability and data storage needs.</li></ul><h4><strong>Given the consensus that rollups are the future for scaling Ethereum, what are your views on the importance of ensuring interoperability and composability as the number of rollups increases?</strong></h4><p>Sujith:</p><ul><li>Message bridges between rollups pose security risks and can affect Ethereum users if a rollup is compromised.</li><li>Institutional users need faster transactions, and current fast bridges using multi-sig or MPC are not fully secure.</li><li>Achieving atomic composability is difficult due to block time delays; solutions might involve single-step finality or zero block time, but this remains challenging.</li></ul><p>Leona:</p><ul><li>Creating a unified L2 is challenging due to social and alignment issues, with different stakeholders having varying investment interests and profit motives.</li></ul><p>Deli:</p><ul><li>Composability issues with rollups are currently a concern due to varying finality times, especially with optimistic rollups. However as zk-based infrastructure becomes cheaper and faster, composability issues are expected to diminish.</li><li>Proposals exist for rollups that use L1 validators for sequencing, with some teams currently working on solutions that could improve composability and address synchronization challenges</li></ul><h4><strong>“The more delightful use case of Web3 is to prioritize Web3-native applications, instead of bringing Web2 use cases on-chain, like buying coffee.” What are your thoughts on this statement?</strong></h4><p>Sujith:</p><ul><li>Ethereum supports various use cases, and developers should explore all possibilities, including both Web2 and Web3 applications.</li><li>Scalability is essential for accommodating diverse applications, and practical on-chain use cases, like buying coffee, are important to validate the value of holding funds on-chain.</li></ul><p>Leona:</p><ul><li>There is a need to address criticisms regarding the efficiency and scalability of blockchain, despite its benefits like transparency.</li><li>The goal is to support a wide range of real-world applications on blockchain, beyond basic transactions, such as banking and various web applications.</li></ul><p>Deli:</p><ul><li>Blockchains excel in transparency for public goods and financial tools but face performance and scalability limitations.
