Nicolas Bonta, the interim president and CEO of Bitfarms, a Canadian crypto mining firm, will step down from the company's board amid a leadership shakeup. Bitfarms announced the appointment of a new board member and changes in leadership roles, with CEO Ben Gagnon joining the board and Brian Howlett becoming the independent chairman. This comes as Riot Platforms continues its attempt to take over Bitfarms, having offered $950 million for the company in May and subsequently increasing its stake. Despite implementing a 'poison pill' strategy to limit Riot's holdings, Canadian regulators blocked this move. Riot now owns 16.9% of Bitfarms' shares and plans to replace three board members at an upcoming shareholder meeting on October 29. Meanwhile, Bitfarms reported a 22% increase in its stock in the second quarter of 2024, mining 614 Bitcoins worth $37 million.
