Irys, a project focused on data provenance, has launched a new layer-1 blockchain designed to provide vertically integrated data storage solutions for software developers. This new blockchain supports applications built on Ethereum, EVM-compatible chains, Solana, Aptos, Avalanche, and other networks. The system features a dual-ledger system for data verification and uses a combination of proof-of-work and staking to incentivize correct data storage. The launch aims to address the high costs and security risks associated with centralized data storage, highlighted by the prohibitive costs of storing data on networks like Ethereum, which have only recently decreased due to technological upgrades.
