Early cryptocurrency investor Roger Ver has been granted bail in Spain but still faces the risk of extradition to the United States. The Spanish court allowed Ver to leave prison after paying bail of approximately 163 thousand US dollars, but he must stay in Spain, surrender his passport, and appear in court every two days. The US Department of Justice has charged Ver with mail fraud, tax evasion, and filing false tax returns, alleging that he deceived the Internal Revenue Service of the United States of about 48 million dollars by not reporting capital gains from Bitcoin and other assets. Despite being born in California, Ver renounced his US citizenship in 2014 and currently holds citizenship in Saint Kitts and Nevis as well as Antigua and Barbuda. US officials plan to extradite Ver from Spain to face trial in the US. If convicted, Ver could face up to 20 years of federal imprisonment.
