OpenCitations Meta, a semantic publishing dataset, leads in data volume with data from CrossRef, DataCite, and NIH Open Citation Collection. It's expanding to include data from Japan Link Center, OpenAIRE Research Graph, and Dryad Digital Repository. OpenCitations Meta offers unique features like OMIDs for identifying entities without external identifiers and a change-tracking mechanism. It aims to correct data quality issues through trusted human domain experts, unlike OpenAlex which uses web crawls. OpenCitations Meta also plans to integrate additional metadata fields important for the academic community. While acknowledging the limitations of automated operations in providing high-quality bibliographic metadata, OpenCitations Meta emphasizes the complementary nature of bibliographic databases, highlighting its advantages in provenance data, complex searches enabled by semantic web technologies, and its data being under a CC0 public domain waiver for unrestricted reuse.
