"Bitcoin Jesus" ROGER VER has been arrested for allegedly evading nearly $50 million in taxes, according to documents from the U.S. Department of Justice. He is charged with mail fraud, tax evasion, and filing false tax returns. VER was arrested last weekend in Spain, and the U.S. is seeking his extradition to face trial. After moving abroad, U.S. law required VER to file tax returns, reporting the constructive sale of assets worldwide and the capital gains obtained, as well as reporting the fair market value of the assets. He was also required to pay taxes on these capital gains. VER provided or caused to be provided false or misleading information to law firms and appraisers, concealing the true amount of Bitcoin he and his companies owned.
