Alpen Labs, a startup focusing on scaling Bitcoin with zero-knowledge technology and rollups, has emerged from stealth mode, announcing $10.6 million in seed funding led by Ribbit Capital. The funding will support the expansion of its team of cryptographers and engineers. Alpen Labs aims to address Bitcoin network issues like privacy, programmability, and scalability through zero-knowledge proofs (ZKPs) and is developing a Bitcoin rollup infrastructure. A testnet launch is planned for 2024. The company envisions creating a programmable, scalable Layer 2 ecosystem on Bitcoin for various on-chain finance applications, including payments, lending, and custody. Alpen Labs's backers include notable investors and firms such as Castle Island Ventures, Geometry Research, and others.
