A new crypto scam exploiting the ERC-2612 token standard's "gas-less transfer" feature is circulating on Telegram, allowing attackers to drain users' wallets without transaction approval. Victims are tricked into signing a message, which then permits the attacker to transfer funds without the need for the victim to approve a transaction. This scam has already resulted in significant losses, with one user reporting over $600 worth of Open Exchange (OX) tokens stolen. The scam involves a phishing scheme where victims are lured into fake Telegram groups and tricked into connecting their wallets to fraudulent websites. Attackers exploit the "permit" function of the ERC-2612 standard, which allows for the transfer of tokens without holding Ether ($ETH) and without the traditional transaction approval process. This incident highlights the growing sophistication of crypto scams and the need for increased awareness and caution among Web3 users.
