StarkNet's Upcoming STRK Token Airdrop Faces Potential Exploitation by Airdrop Hunters

StarkNet, an Ethereum Layer-2 scaling solution, is set to launch its much-anticipated STRK token airdrop on February 20, with 700 million tokens allocated to 1.3 million eligible wallet addresses. However, a report by Yearn Finance developer Banteg highlights concerns over airdrop hunters potentially exploiting the system. According to Banteg, 1,854 individuals allegedly renamed or deleted their accounts after a blockchain snapshot was taken, with 1,175 of these accounts having identical historical GitHub IDs. Banteg suggests that excluding these accounts could significantly reduce the number of eligible wallets. Airdrop hunters, who aim to profit from collecting free tokens, have been known to use scripts to consolidate addresses, as seen in previous airdrops like Arbitrum. StarkNet, launched in December 2022, has a total value locked (TVL) of $55 million, with DeFi protocol Nostra contributing to a significant portion of this volume. The airdrop is not available to U.S. and U.K. persons or entities, and citizens of countries sanctioned by the U.S. Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control.
