The WazirX hackers have laundered around $230 million deposited by users through Tornado Cash. The hackers have left about $6 million in various tokens in the wallet, with an estimated 63% of user funds that had been stolen, laundered. Users remain unpaid, despite recovery efforts being complicated by the involvement of the North Korean Lazarus Group.
Despite the massive amounts being laundered, those hit by the attack have not yet been compensated. In response to the breach, WazirX has filed for a six-month moratorium in Singapore to provide for a loan for creditors and pay back users. WazirX issued a statement saying that all stolen assets will be returned to the wallet, but the funds' payments will depend on the successful payment of all debts and the success of the ongoing marketing campaign, details are needed to be released. WazirX aims to distribute 55% to 57% of assets to users, but the 40% of debtholders will be paid back once the funds are back. The crypto community has been clamoring for more transparency and accountability from exchanges following the incident, raising concerns over crypto exchanges' security measures. Meanwhile, the hackers are still waiting for the stolen funds to be redistributed.
