Bitlight

Bitlight is an infrastructure project that builds applications and tooling for the Bitcoin and Lightning Network ecosystems, utilizing the RGB protocol. Founded in 2021 by Bitlight Labs, it enables the creation and management of native digital assets, including stablecoins, directly on the Bitcoin network. By leveraging the RGB protocol's client-side validation, Bitlight addresses existing challenges in the crypto space, such as high fees and scalability issues often associated with other blockchain platforms. This approach allows for scalable, private, and censorship-resistant asset transfers, preserving user sovereignty and control.

The project's key features include a non-custodial Bitlight Wallet, which integrates with both the RGB protocol and the Lightning Network for fast, low-cost asset transfers. This wallet allows users to securely manage native Bitcoin alongside RGB20 tokens. To support developers and expand the ecosystem, Bitlight Labs also provides core code, software development kits (SDKs), and reference implementations for RGB and Lightning interoperability. This infrastructure promotes the creation of a more robust decentralized finance (DeFi) environment on Bitcoin by enabling complex smart contracts and asset logic.

Bitlight’s development has attracted significant investment and market attention, with a $9.6 million funding round completed in September 2025. These funds are directed toward further integrating the RGB and Lightning protocols to power Bitcoin-native stablecoin payments. The project's LIGHT token has also gained traction, with recent listings on major cryptocurrency exchanges like Binance and Gate.io, signaling growing market interest in its approach to enhancing Bitcoin's functionality. As Bitlight Labs continues to advance its technology, it aims to become a foundational layer for programmable assets within the world's most secure decentralized network.
