LayerZero is a blockchain interoperability protocol designed to facilitate seamless communication and asset transfers between multiple blockchains. Launched by LayerZero Labs, the protocol addresses the growing need for cross-chain interactions in decentralized finance (DeFi) and Web3 applications. LayerZero’s core technology, Ultra Light Nodes (ULNs), enables efficient cross-chain messaging by verifying transactions across networks through minimal computational resources, making it a scalable and cost-effective solution for blockchain interoperability.

In April 2023, LayerZero Labs raised $120 million in a Series B funding round, elevating its valuation to $3 billion. This investment, led by top-tier firms like Sequoia, a16z, and FTX, underscored the market's confidence in LayerZero’s potential to revolutionize blockchain interoperability. With a substantial user base, LayerZero powers over 300 applications and has seen considerable adoption in DeFi protocols such as Stargate Finance, which uses LayerZero for cross-chain liquidity management.

LayerZero plans to launch its native token, $ZRO, in the first half of 2024, with potential governance and staking capabilities that will allow holders to participate in protocol decisions. The upcoming token launch has generated significant community interest, with potential airdrop eligibility criteria being discussed within LayerZero’s ecosystem.
